Sunkoshi River is widely acknowledged as one of the ten best rafting trips in the world, offers the most challenging rapids, waves and drops to you. The Sun Koshi is the most popular of several longer floats in Nepal. And logistics are fairly easy making its one of the cheapest in terms of cost per day in comparison with others. Its run begains from Dolalghat three hours drive from Kathmandu and put-off at Chatara near Dharan of the eastern Nepal.
The river crosses remote part of the country flowing through a varied landscape of jungle clad canyons, arid, open valleys and sparse settlements from its beginning point of Tibetan Plateau. Unlike most rives, which starts out rough and get tamer as they descend, Sunkoshi starts gently, affording a chance to build up experience and confidence prior to steady diet of increasingly exciting whitewater class 3 - 4. This makes it especially a good choice for first river trip. Sunkoshi is considered as Holy River meets the Holy Ganges in India.
Sunkoshi is often called Gold River, as Sun meant Gold in Nepali. Still there are communities who search gold in its bank with long tradition. We start rafting from put-in point Dolalghat covering the distance of 57 km in about 3 hours drive from Kathmandu. Your exciting journey starts and ends only after completing 210 km of wild stretches, calm flows through high rock scattered passages ultimately emerging form mountain to flat plains.
